“We were together. I forget the rest.”

around the house

the Gent and i have started fiddling around with decorating our house. he has lived here for many years before i came along, and credit where credit is due- he has great taste and did just fine without me. but. decorating and rearranging together is all kinds of fun. one of my favorite boards on my pinterest is ‘for our house’. so, here are some recent pins of interiors and household items that are inspiring me lately. happy wednesday!

that table+those chairs+those floors= perfection. clean but warm, and not too matchy-matchy.  {here}

we have a fireplace, which is fantastic, but the mismatched bricks and outdated mantle are not so great. we are dying to paint the brick white and stain the wood a dark, glossy brown. he is great at keeping a nice big stack of wood next to it which makes it super cozy. this living room, therefore…  is to die for. no?  {here}

today i discovered a perfect little home goods site, ancient industries. enamel cookware, beautiful linen towels… yes, please!

one area of the house that really needs some attention is the laundry room. believe me, after living in nyc and san francisco, i feel very lucky to even HAVE a laundry room, but it definitely needs some love. when i saw this utility room on remodelista, i knew i had found my inspiration!

BELIEVES: “A human being is part of the whole, called by us ‘Universe,’ a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest – a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but the striving for such achievement is in itself a part of the liberation, and a foundation for inner security.” Albert Einstein “The important thing is not to think much but to love much and so do that which best stirs you to love.” St. Teresa of Avila “People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think that what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances without own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.” Joseph Campbell
