“We were together. I forget the rest.”

Weekend Discoveries

I used to go out a lot. Like, 4-5 times a week. When I met John, the craving to do that all but evaporated and though we do get out, going out to a bar for the sake of it is rare. There are times when I think we’ve gotten into too much of a homebody routine, but for the most part I quite like it. I sort of formalized that in my mind this weekend, and finally said it out loud to John. For some reason, I had hesitated to vocalize it… I was afraid he might say something along the lines of “yeah, about that…”. But instead, when I said, “You know? Honestly? I would be totally happy to spend every Friday night at home with you and Jake, opening a bottle of wine, watching Bill Maher and doing laundry, he looked at me sideways and replied, “Well YEAH. That’s my favorite.” Ah yes. Speaking your mind is always a good thing.

On Sunday we decided to check out a dog park I had heard about on Mercer Island. It’s in a little cove of the island and opens onto the water. It was gorgeous, with pine trees and ferns everywhere. Needless to say Jake was in heaven, as were we. A new tradition was born. As you can see, Jake is not small, shy or recuperating, but that sign is the greatest, don’t you think?

Another discovery: we are both itching to do a ton of redecorating our house. Namely, the living room. John wants a new TV, among other things, and I wouldn’t mind putting it on this.

BELIEVES: “A human being is part of the whole, called by us ‘Universe,’ a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest – a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but the striving for such achievement is in itself a part of the liberation, and a foundation for inner security.” Albert Einstein “The important thing is not to think much but to love much and so do that which best stirs you to love.” St. Teresa of Avila “People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think that what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances without own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.” Joseph Campbell
